The importance of wellbeing Why sustainability should be a priority for every company People will travel again but at what risk and how frequently Sustainability Q&A Risk management Q&A Traveller & delegate wellbeing Q&A Meet better Q&A What's inside Welcome INNTELLIGENT NEWS - ISSUE 17 Priorities have changed in the last 18 months, not only professionally but also personally as these two worlds have become more intertwined as a result of homeworking. Over the following pages, we will explore the importance of personal wellbeing and safety whilst travelling on business. Gone are the days of leaving the house at 6:00am and returning at 10:00pm for one meeting which can effectively be done virtually. Business trips will be better planned and provide a more quantifiable ROI. Well rested travellers perform better, therefore, I am expecting to see fewer but longer trips in the future with a better quality of travel and accommodation. The landscape of meetings has changed forever with most of us having no choice but to embrace the virtual world. And what a revelation it has been! New virtual meeting solutions appeared overnight and we have successfully adopted this new way to meet. There is no denying that there are huge benefits in terms of efficiency and saving time. But… we have missed meeting face to face, seeing our colleagues, connecting with our clients and the creative thinking you only get from being in a room with like-minded people. We will explore how we can have the best of both worlds going forward. And last but certainly not least, we explore the impact of the pandemic on sustainability goals. The travel and meetings carbon footprint reduced to zero for many companies during the pandemic and as a result, made it straight to the top of the agenda for when travel returns. A carbon neutral future for business travel is not only possible but the future is already here. Business travel and meetings will be back on the agenda soon however, they will take place in a way which considers our personal wellbeing and safety as well as that of our beautiful planet. Thank you for your support in the last year and I look forward to seeing you very soon. Douglas O’Neill CEO, Inntel A glimpse of the future… Unbelievably, it has been nearly 18 months since I last sat down to write the welcome for Inntelligent News and what an 18 months it has been. In my last welcome note, I spoke about the impact of Brexit and said: ‘Whatever goes on in the world, our work continues. Helping companies meet, travel, inspire, engage and grow. We can’t predict the future so let’s focus on the here and now.’ This feels almost serendipitous now as only a few months later, our future changed and the impact on our work has been huge. Whilst we could not help our clients meet and travel, we have continued to inspire, engage and grow during this exceptionally challenging time. 20
